Welcome to RIT's 175th Anniversary website. The University celebrated the anniversary during the 2004-05 academic year. This website is no longer active and will no longer be updated. The site remains active, however, to preserve the history of both RIT and the anniversary year.

In 1829, a $5 annual fee would give members of RIT's forerunner, the Rochester Athenaeum, access to great American orators like Oliver Wendell Holmes, Horace Greeley and Ralph Waldo Emerson.

In 1891, the Athenaeum merged with the Mechanics Institute. In 1944 the school changed its name to Rochester Institute of Technology.

The rest, as they say, is history. Please visit our historical timeline, view videos and write down your own recollections of RIT.
